The department of Hérault has acquired a new bookmobile to transport books throughout the department. Thanks to the restocking of the 235 departmental libraries with new collections or ordered books, this service allows the residents to benefit from a diversified choice of reading.
The CD34 project group - led by the head of service and the logistics manager of the departmental media library network as well as librarians and drivers – thought about a custom-build layout of the vehicle. Thanks to their reflection, the space and the presentation of the books has been enhanced while ensuring optimal working conditions for the personnel on board.
A carefully designed and fitted out mobile library
A dedicated reception allows local librarians to pick up their orders, exchange books or find out about new products and trends.
They can take note of the works carried thanks to a large presentation space, aisles with numerous bins and modular shelves and even a shelf dedicated to kamishibai.
In total, up to 2,900 books, 720 comics and 252 CDs can be offered in this library on wheels.
The layout has also been studied to enhance the books. Plexiglas displays at the end of the spans thus highlight the selected works.
Large bay windows and wide skylights provide maximum brightness to guarantee a bright and comfortable environment.
An innovative mobile library designed to prevent the librarians musculoskeletal disorders
Besides the storage and enhancement of the works, a second point was important for the renewal of this mobile means: the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders. Close collaboration has been established between our sales team, our design office and Departmental Council of Hérault to develop solutions to improve the employees’ working conditions.
We have therefore integrated a book lift into this mobile library. This device facilitates the charging port in order to make transfers from the road to the inside of the mobile unit without risk. Employees access the vehicle by the stairs without carrying books and collect them upstairs.
The lift has 3 levels:
- The 1st one is located on the ground and allows books to be deposited directly in the elevator.
- The 2nd is adapted to the platform in the garage of the central media library.
- The 3rd is inside the bookmobile, at the height of the worktop to collect and store the books.
Easy to use, all you have to do is press the buttons to operate the lift and handle the books safely!
In addition, an automatic sliding door facilitates staff movement without any manipulation and preserves the ambient temperature in the bookmobile.
Finally, it is autonomous and can be parked in front of the libraries without electrical connection and without noise pollution while ensuring optimal working conditions for the staff.
Satisfied with this ergonomic mobile library, the department has also renewed its confidence in us by ordering a second vehicle.
