This innovative and mobile service was created by the City of Toulouse in response to a call for projects launched by the French government. The mobile social truck was financed by the City of Toulouse and the Prefect of the region Occitanie, with the help of associations and public authorities as part of the national strategy to prevent and fight poverty.
In response to an urgent need, the Solidaritruck provides support and shelter for the most disadvantaged people. The Banque Alimentaire makes it available to a number of associations in Toulouse.
Fully-equipped mobile kitchen
Many homeless and isolated people living in suburban hotels do not have access to a place to eat a healthy and varied meal.
The mobile solidarity unit provides these populations with a fully equipped kitchen:
- cooking stations,
- ovens,
- microwave,
- plenty of food storage,
- large fridge to keep food fresh,
- kitchen equipment.
Many people come here to prepare a hot meal for their family and to learn how to cook local and seasonal food to optimise their food budget.
The cooking activity also makes it easier to discuss everyday difficulties with the partner teams.
Truck adapted for administrative use
Ergonomically designed as a mobile office, the Solidaritruck offers social and administrative support and advice to the most vulnerable: identification of highly vulnerable situations, referral to appropriate local health and social services, support with administrative formalities....
A waiting room allows children to wait while parents have a personal, one-to-one interview with a social adviser, in an area where confidentiality is paramount.
In this way, it helps to re-establish dialogue with people who often lose touch with the social services.
Cultural activities are also organised, such as a digital refresher course to bridge the digital divide, and a second-hand goods shop.
Mobile medical consultations
A 3rd multi-purpose area offers medical services (prevention, diagnosis, screening, vaccination...).
This area is accessible to carers, doctors and psychologists, enabling them to carry out diagnoses as close as possible to people who are often far from the health services.
It can also be used for beauty care and hairdressing to enhance the self-esteem of these people - for example, with a view to a job interview.
